Institutional Data

Common Data Sets

The Common Data Set is a collection of general information on a college or university’s admissions policy, enrollment, academic programs, tuition, financial aid, faculty, class size, and so on. It is the result of cooperation among guidebook publishers, institutional researchers, and others. The goal of that effort is to improve the quality and accuracy of the information and to reduce the reporting burden on information providers. In the documents linked below are USC Upstate’s answers to the questions in the Common Data Set.

Voluntary System of Accountability College Portrait

The Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA) is a voluntary initiative for 4-year public colleges and universities. Developed through a partnership between the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC), the VSA is designed to help institutions meet the following objectives:

  • Demonstrate accountability and stewardship to public
  • Measure educational outcomes to identify effective educational practices
  • Assemble information that is accessible, understandable, and comparable

The VSA communicates information on the undergraduate student experience through a common web reporting template, the College Portrait.  The College Portrait is a source of basic, comparable information about public colleges and institutions presented in a user-friendly format.  It is designed to be trustworthy source of reliable data for prospective students and their families.
