University of Nairobi

The largest of the Kenyan educational institutions, the University of Nairobi is home to over 60,000 students. While it's history can be traced back to 1956, the university as it is now known came into being in 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent institutions. In 1983, UoN was divided into six colleges including Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Architecture and Engineering, Biological and Physical Sciences, Education and External Studies, Health Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The city of Nairobi is both the capital of Kenya and its largest city. Beyond the Kenyan borders, the city is a major hub for all of Africa with over 100 major international companies and organizations having offices within its limits. Even the United Nations has its Africa and Middle East headquarters in the city. Two nicknames have been given to Nairobi including "The Green City in the Sun" and "Safari Capital of the World" which pays homage to the large amount of safari tourism which happens each year.
