Workshop Description
Participants will unpack the ACTFL Can-Do Statements for Intercultural Communication to understand and identify the connections between Intercultural Investigations and the interpretive and presentational modes of communication, as well as the connections between Intercultural Interactions and the interpersonal mode of communication. Intercultural investigations in all World Language programs start with interpreting authentic texts, which are everything one can see, hear, touch, smell or taste from the target culture.
Participants will learn how to create performance tasks for intercultural investigations in the target language at all levels and in all programs through authentic texts, and how students can use the target language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship between the practices or products and perspectives of cultures to prepare for more meaningful intercultural interactions.
Facilitator: Ms. Cobe frequently presents at state, regional and national conferences. She has served on the board of FLANC, and was named as a FLANC Honorary Life Member in 2014. Ms.Cobe also served as a member of the ACTFL Task Force on Interculturality, and currently serves as a committee chair for ACTFL and as the Vice President of the National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages (NADSFL). During her 27 years in public education, she has worked in curriculum and supervision, taught French in grades 6-12, and Spanish in grades K-12.
